This role will be responsible for managing projects and research related to fish welfare which include the following scope of work: feed development, fish health program including the development of a fish lab and environmental monitoring. Red Sea native species are the focus, but research is to be carried out on other farmed species as required. Feeds are to be developed to maximize FCR’s, Health, Growth and Survival for target species under Red Sea condition and by production technique (cage, RAS, pond). The role will cover hatchery through to finishing diets. The identification and incorporation of novel feed ingredients will be crucial to the role.

Position Description and Responsibilities
  • Initiate and manage research and innovation projects within aquaculture feeds in conjunction with terra commercial partners and selected research organizations.

  • Investigate and optimize the use of alternative and/or novel raw materials and ingredients in feed

  • Optimize sustainability and reduce carbon-footprint of fish feed

  • Contribute to designing recipes for experimental diets

  • Actively participate in the strategic development of the Section

  • Assist in mobilizing resources in support of new research activities.

  • Develop productive partnerships to further sustainable feeds research, including key international and national research institutes.

  • Initiate and manage research and innovation projects within fish health organizations with NEOM’s commercial partners and selected research institutions

  • Initiate and manage research and innovation projects that aim to improve and increase quality of real-time environmental monitoring systems, incorporating predictive analytics and machine learning.

  • To develop a proactive fish health plan to secure an optimal animal welfare

  • To develop a surveillance plan and sampling

  • To develop a fish lab able to deliver quick and efficient responses to fish diseases

  • To engage with world class fish vaccine companies to be able to develop vaccine solutions for existing and emerging diseases as needed

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Passion for terra mission to deploy the latest technologies to achieve Food Security.
    Advanced understanding of the science of aquaculture production systems, fish welfare, fish diets, fish health
    Knowledge of best management practices for aquaculture feed production.
    Knowledge of novel ingredient production in relation to marine protein and oil replacement.
    Project management, including developing project strategy and simultaneously managing
    Excellent communication skills
    Fluent in English (fluency or working knowledge in Arabic is a plus
    Knowledge and experience of working in developing countries in Africa and/or Asia.

Qualifications
  • University or college degree in biological science or a related field with associated industry experience.

    Technical background in Aquaculture or a related field

    Experience in Project Management

    Network within industry or research
